Broadstairs Bygone Times Kent REPRO Postcard St. Mary's Chapel 1601 Artist Drawn

Modern reproduction of an Old Judges' Postcard, Bygone Times of Broadstairs. The ancient Shrine of "Our Ladye of Bradstowe" was in existence before 1070, when pilgrims came from all parts to pay homage to its sanctuary. When rounding the point ships would lower their topsails in salute - an event recorded in the town's coat of arms, as in the defensive portal York Gate. It was the flight of broad steps leading to the Chapel that gave the town its name. The oldest part of the building is 1299. The date 1601 only denotes when the building was restored. Published by Judges Postcards Ltd. Hastings.
