Vintage Egyptian Colour Tuck's Oilette Picture Postcard. Africa Egypte Egypt. Temple of Edfou Edfu. Western Ladies Women. / Temple of Edfou. The town of Edfou, 515 1/2 miles from Cairo, is celebrated only for its wonderful Temple of Horus, the Sun-God, son of Isis and Osiris. Its building was begun in Ptolemy III.'s reign (B.C. 237), and completed B.C. 57-180 years. The temple is in almost complete preservation.

Background: Edfu, Edfou, is located on the west bank of the River Nile between Esna and Aswan. It is the site of the Ptolemaic Temple (built between 237 BCE to 57 BCE). Of all the temple remains in Egypt, the Temple of Horus (built from sandstone blocks) at Edfu is the most completely preserved.
