FOOTBALL WORLD CUP - Fussball Weltmeister 1954 Postcard

Players : Fritz Walter, Toni Turek, Horst Eckel, Helmut Rahn, Ottmar Walter, Werner Liebrich, Jupp Posipal, Hans Schaefer, Werner Kohlmeyer, Karl Mai, Max Morlock. / Josef Sepp Herberger (1897-1977) was a German football player and manager. He is most famous for being the manager of the West German national team which won the 1954 FIFA World Cup - The Miracle of Bern. The 1954 FIFA World Cup, the 5th staging of the World Cup, was held in Switzerland from June 16 to July 4. Switzerland was chosen as hosts in July 1946. The tournament was won by West Germany, who defeated Hungary 3-2 in the final, giving them their first title. It was this year the World Cup was first televised.

The steam ship S.S. General von Steuben was a German luxury passenger ship. Formerly named the München, renamed in 1930 as the General von Steuben, after the famous German officer of the American Revolutionary War. In WW2 1944, she was an armed transport ship, taking German troops to Eastern Baltic ports, and returning to Kiel with wounded. She was sunk in 1945, more than 3,000 people died.
