Titanic Crew, Captain Smith 62 years old, had been the master of a number of White Star Line Ships. Jack Phillip, the radio operator, was born in 1887 and educated in Godalming, Surrey at the Grammar school. He was employed and trained by Marconi. After having been told by the captain to abandon his post, he remained on duty making his last call at 2.17am. At 2.20 a.m. the 45,000 ton ship sank 12,000 feet to the bottom of the ocean.
