China 1926 Cavanders Cigarette Card Ancient Chinese Farmer Threshing Rice, WheatVintage Old Small Cigarette Card. 3.5cm x 6.7cm. 1926. Cavanders Ltd London Established 1775. China. Ancient Chinese. No. 19. Ethnic Life. Rice and Wheat are usually threshed in China by beating on a frame of slats. A man takes a handful of the unthreshed grain in both hands and strikes it forcibly upon the slats until the grain is beaten out, when the straw is thrown aside and the process repeated. The grain is winnowed by throwing it up in the wind, or by a rudely constructed fanning-mill.Publisher: Cavanders Ltd London
