Cromer - world-renowned for its gorse and heather-crowned downs and poppy-bedecked lanes. The cliffs here are some of the highest on the Norfolk coast. The old town, called Shipden, with one of its churches, was swept away by the sea about the year 1500. In the vicinity is the deserted churchyard pathetically immortalised by the late Clement Scott as the "Garden of Sleep.".
