Vintage Tuck's Oilette Art Artist Drawn Postcard. Laxey Wheel, Isle of Man. Great Wheel, Laxey, I.O.M. The Lady Isabella, Erected 1854, Circumference 227 feet, Diameter 72 1/2 feet, Breadth 6 feet, Raises 250 gallons per minute, Horse Power 200. / Smaller than the Great Wheels at Earl's Court, Paris, and Blackpool, the Laxey Wheel nevertheless attains very respectable dimensions - namely, a circumference of 227 feet, a diameter of 72 1/2 feet, and a breadth of 6 feet. It was constructed in 1854, in order to keep the lead mines dry. Its platform is 75 feet high, and is reached by 95 spiral stairs.
