Edinburgh Castle FOREWALL BATTERY, Mons Meg & St. Margaret's Chapel Old Postcard

Vintage Scotland Postcard. Edinburgh Castle - Forewall Battery, Showing Mons Meg & St. Margaret's Chapel. Cannons. Guns. Soldiers. / The Forewall BAttery was erected in 1336 by Edward III., while St. Margaret's Chapel dates back a period of over 800 years. It was built by Queen Margaret, wife of Malcolm Canmore, and is the smallest and most ancient chapel in Scotland. It is still occasionally used for divine service and the baptism of garrison children. The origin of the famous old gun, Mons Meg, which is seen to the right of St. Margaret's Chapel, gives rise to difference of opinion. It is known to have played an important part in various sieges, and was last used against Dunottar Castle in 1651.
