Broadstairs Postcard North Foreland Lighthouse Engld's Oldest Working Lighthouse

Modern reproduction of an Old Judges' Postcard, Bygone Times of Broadstairs North Foreland Lighthouse, the oldest working lighthouse in England, dating from 1499 where the light was just a beacon. In 1637 the light was an open-fire and was destroyed in 1683. A new tower was built from which the present building dates (1690). It is 185,000 candle-power, visible 20 miles. It is 83 feet high and 188 feet above sea level. It was the North Foreland Radio Station that in 1910 made radio history when it sent the message which led to the capture of Dr. Crippen, the first criminal to be arrested by the means of radio.
