USA Old PPC Grand Canyon National Park - Granite Gorge

Early Coloured Picture Postcard. The Granite Gorge from Bright Angel Trail. Arizona. Down by the river the walls are composed of black gneiss, slates and schists, traversed by dikes of granite. Then there are 800 feet of quartzites, then 500 feet of greenish sandstone, then 700 feet called alcove limestone, above which is 1600 feet of limestone, known as redwall limestone, then 800 feet of banded sandstone and at the top 1000 feet of Aubrey limestone. These are the elements with which the walls are constructed, from black buttress below a alabaster tower above. .
