Background: Szklarska Poręba, formerly Schreiberhau, Germany, is a ski resort town in southwestern Poland, and one of the most important centres of mountain hiking and skiing. It is situated in the valley of the Zacken in the Karkonosze Mountains, 1,900 ft. above sea level, 16 miles southwest from Jelenia Góra. Szklarska Poręba belongs to the Dolnoslaskie voivodship, a resort with increasing importance for tourism as an alternative to the Alps.
