It was erected in 1788 after designs by Sir J. Soane, in a Corinthian style of architecture, after the model of the Temple of the Sibyl at Tivoli. The Royal Exchange is the 3rd building on this site, the 2 first having been destroyed by fires. The present building by Tite, was opened in 1844.
