These useful little engines - of which three hundred were built - were by no means confined to coal haulage, but were used for all types of short-distacnce freight and passenger trains, especially in hilly districts. The class was designed in 1881 and all but one had gone by 1955. This sole survivor was brought out of retirement in 1958 to work a special last train in the Abergavenny district.Publisher: J.
