Modern reproduction of an Old Judges' Postcard, Bygone Times of Broadstairs. (Music / Musical Band). Uncle Mack - J. Harold Summerson - and his troupe of Minstrels provided entertainment for visitors on a stage between the Waterloo Stairs and Jubilee Steps, and at the end of the Jetty, for half a century. The Thanet Tramway Company was established in 1901 and closed in 1937. Beyond the tram can be seen the old Victorian Bandstands, replaced by the present one in 1952. Modern reproduction of an Old Judges' Postcard, Bygone Times of Broadstairs. York Gate House, York Gate and White's Wharf in 1789. The shipbuilding yards of the famous shipwrights George Culmer and John White, were in being well before 1495. It was Richard Culmer who established the shipbuilding industry and his son George who, in 1538, built Harbour Street and the Pier, and in 1540 York Gate to defend them.
