Built by the Emperor Shah Jahan between 1638 A.D. and 1648 A.D. In this Hall was the famous peacock throne worth of two hundred million. It is called that the figures of two peacocks standing behind it, their tails being expanded and whole so inlaid with sapphires, rubbies, diamonds, pearls and other precious stones of appropriate colour as to the represent life.Background: The Diwan-i-Khas is grand in its marble columns and stone platform on which stood the Peacock Throne with its solid gold frame studded with the empire's costliest diamonds, emeralds, rubies and pearls valued at 12,037,500 pounds sterling as per Travernier's contemporary account. Diwan-i-Khas witnessed the apex of Mughal glory and its fall.
