Background: This picture was exhibited by the artist, Walter Dendy Sadler, in the Royal Academy in 1880. It shows monks obtaining the compulsory fare for the next day, hence its title. The sequel picture is "Friday" in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. The artist was born at Dorking in 1854.
