Egypt Tuck's Oilette Old Postcard - THE SPHINX OF GIZA

Vintage Colour Artist Drawn Egyptian Postcard. The Sphinx. Oilette. The Sphinx, reckoned amongst the greatest wonders of the world, was shaped from a mass of rock in the time of King Khephren (IV Dynasty 2850 B.C.), & represents the head of the King with the body of a lion. It was disfigured by a fanatical Sheikh in 1380 A.D.

Background: Giza (Arabic, الجيزة, transliterated al-ǧīzah; pronounced in the Egyptian Arabic dialect of Cairo al-Gīza; also sometimes rendered in English as Gizeh, Ghizeh, or Geezeh) is a town in Egypt on the left bank of the Nile river, across from the old city of Cairo, and now part of the greater Cairo metropolis. It is the capital of Al Jizah governorate, and is located in the northeast of this governorate, near its border.
