Clarence Pier Beach Fishing Boats Southsea Old PostcardEarly sepia picture post card of the Clarence original Pier (before WW2) Portsmouth.Publisher: printed in England. Condition: Unused Background: The Victorian style octagonal pavilion pier, was opened by the Prince of Wales (later to become King Edward VII) in 1882. During the Second World War, Clarence Pier was hit by German bombs and totally destroyed. Re-building of the pier didn't commence until 1953.
