Birds, Pigeons. / The Charterhouse (French Chartreuse) was formerly a Carthusian monastery founded by Sir Walter Manny in 1371. It was dissolved by Henry VIII., and after various vicissitudes was bought in 1611 by Thomas Sutton to place there his hospital for 80 poor men and 40 poor boys.
