Background: The Brazen Palace is known as the Lovamahapaya or great copper-foofed mansion. Its roof was originally covered with copper-bronze tiles. Duttagamini Abhaya built the massive Lovamahapaya for the monks. The rectangular buidlling had 9 storeys with 100+ windows in each storey, the rooms (1000 in all) were decorated with silver, coral and precious stones. Only parts of the 1600 supporting pillars remain today. Anuradhapura is the main trading post of ancient Sri Lanka. According to a Sinhala Buddhist chronicle, the ancient town is well planned. Reservoirs are constructed to ensure continuous water supply. The ruins of Anuradhapura are well-preserved.
