Early Picture Post Card, The Golden Kyoung, Mandalay, Burmah. Mandalay, on the banks of the Irrawaddy, is the capital of Upper Burmah, formerly an independent State, but since 1886 under British protection. The national religion is Buddhism, and there are in various parts of the country many beautiful pagodas, these abounding particularly in the neighbourhood of the capital.
