Australia First Day Cover 1981 Set 4 The Gold Rush EraTribute to Artist S. T. Gill, Sketch, FDC Austrlian Post Cover No.155Sent from: Ballarat Stamp: Licence Inspected, Puddling, Quality of Washing Stuff, On route to deposit gold Condition: Used Background: Samuel Thomas Gill (1818-1880) was a struggling, Adelaide artist who had emigrated from England in 1839. When the rich gold-fields of Victoria were discovered in 1851 Gill, like thousands of others, joined the rush. His sketches of life at the diggings succeeded in capturing a vivid record of that rollicking period in Australian History.
