Switzerland. Sir John Everett Millais (1829-96). Millais began painting in the Royal Academy SChools when 11 years old. In 1848 he founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood with Hunt and Rossetti - seeking to emulate painters before Raphael. These theories were later abandoned. In 1885 he was the first English artist to be made a Baronet, and was elected President of the Royal Academy in the year he died.Publisher: The Medici Society London
